The very private waterfront on the spring fed deep water lake boasts a boathouse with plenty of dockage, a swim raft with a slide, and a mooring ball. The Guest House / Cottage
(Sleeps up to 10)
The non-smoking Guest House is rented frequently and reservations should be made as far in advance as possible. The Guest House is a completely private, gorgeous, 1200 sq’ cedar cottage with cedar interior, and enjoys an expansive view of the lake. The cottage was recently renovated with all new windows, kitchen, bathroom, steel roof, and tastefully decorated with hardwood floors throughout. The guest house has four bedrooms, two with Queen sized beds and two with double-bottom-single-top bunk beds (sleeps 10 comfortably), one bathroom (plans to add a second one during the winter 2010/2011), a Vermont castings woodstove, laundry room, five new appliances, foosball table, outdoor fire-pit, horse shoe pits, deck and a hot tub overlooking the lake. It also enjoys a separate private dock suitable for most reasonably sized boats. The oversized deck overlooking the water hosts a hot-tub and a lovely screened in gazebo.
There is a public (free) boat launch close by, right at the end of Big Rideau Lake road, and there is plenty of parking for cars and trailers here, as well as 38′ of private dock for your enjoyment. There is a canoe and we provide two adult sized life jackets but we don’t have any life jackets for children. The water in Big Rideau Lake is clean and clear and our shoreline is shale bottom with a gradual walk out into the lake with no significant drop off. The water level at the end of the dock is 41/2 – 51/2 feet deep, depending on the time of year. We do reccomend water shoes when walking in the water because there are some , but not many, zebra mussels. We have a swim raft with a slide that is sure to amuse kids of all ages.
The cottage is quite well stocked with an initial supply of all the basics and there are a couple of local markets so you shouldn’t have to bring too much. There is a local flea market on summer Saturdays in Crosby where you can get fruit, vegetables and baking (not to mention lots of stuff that is fun but you probably won’t need). The cottage has a TV, satellite, DVD player and a bunch of movies, a foosball table, some board games, books, etc. in case of inclement weather, which we’re hoping *not* to have ….
