Winking Rosebud Retreat is a wonderful place to get away from it all and relax. We offer something for every taste whether it be boating, shopping, fishing, golfing, hiking, bicycling, antiquing, swimming and much more. Come and visit us, it will be an experience to remember.
There is a wide variety of recreational opportunities. A little something for everyone Relax in the hot tub with a cold drink. Keep the kids engaged with water-skiing, wakeboarding, horseshoeing, foosball, croquet, or bring them out for a paddle in the canoe.
The private dockThe bay has beautiful deep clean water excellent for swimming and fishing and a canoe available for your use. The Big Rideau Lake is famous for its bountiful supply of Northern Pike, Large and Small Mouth Bass, Crappie, Walleye and Lake Trout. Catch dinner right off the dock! No boat? Not a problem, there are several places where you can rent one.
There’s plenty to do on dry land as well. There are 80 acres of forest to explore, along with 6km of trails to hike, walk, 4-wheel, or cross-country ski.
There is a flea market on summer Saturdays in nearby Crosby (5 minutes away) where you can buy produce, baked goods, crafts, antiques, and all sorts of other things you can’t live without.
Golf on the wooded terrain of one of several nearby golf courses. Hike on our 80 acre private wildlife conservation area or the Rideau or Cataraqui Trails. Bicycle our backroads or trails. Spend a day antiquing at one of our many antique shops. Tour a museum and learn about some of the early history of the region.
Of course no visit would be complete without a visit to one of the Rideau Canal Waterway lockstations. The Rideau Canal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the only such site in all of Ontario. The locks are operated by hand, just as they were when first opened in 1832. Visit the magnificent stone arch dam at Jones Falls. Take a break at the quiet solitude of Davis Lock. Visit the Locksmaster’s House Museum at Chaffeys Lock. See the wonderfully restored blockhouse at Newboro Lock. Ask the locksmaster at Narrows Lock why this lock is strangely located in the middle of a lake. The locks are operated by Parks Canada and are easily accessible by either vehicle or boat.
There are many lively towns along the Rideau Lakes. Visit these towns, by car or by boat, and you can take in golf, historic tours, boat tours, and festivals.
Considering how relatively isolated the Winking Rosebud is, the shopping in the area is incredible. For those of you who love to shop, Kilborne’s store in Newboro, and the Village Green in Westport, offer an incredible array of beautiful shoes, boots, clothes, outerwear, and fantastic country gifts. The nearby village of Westport offers a wide variety of quaint shops, ice cream parlours and restuarants.
